FULL-TIME POSITIONS

Exhibit Technician: The Exhibit Technician position is responsible for the mechanical maintenance of variety of museum exhibits. This position works in the public area of the museum inspecting, maintaining, and repairing exhibits daily, including checking for visible damage, guaranteeing proper function of interactive exhibits, and the repair of minor defects to ensure maximum safety and durability. This position requires: Three (3) or more years of technical work experience involving electronics, carpentry and metal working in a professional business setting. The ability to operate equipment such as a forklift, scissor lift, single lift, pallet jack, and dolly to move heavier materials. The ability to work in public areas of the Museum and exhibit excellent customer service skills and the ability to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. This is a full-time position that is eligible for our generous leave, benefits and retirement package. The working hours are Tuesday through Saturday.

Maintenance Technician: The maintenance technician is responsible for assisting the facilities director in executing an extensive preventive maintenance program that includes checks and repairs. This full-time position requires three (3) years of maintenance experience in a professional setting and the ability to operate equipment such as a forklift, pallet jack and dolly to move heavy materials, plus the ability to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Hourly rate: $14.50 to $16/hour. This position is eligible for the museum’s generous benefits, leave, and retirement package.

Temp to Hire Maintenance Technician: The maintenance technician is responsible for assisting the facilities director in executing an extensive preventive maintenance program that includes checks and repairs. Temp to Hire Custodial Team Member: The Temp to Hire Custodial Team Member position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Museum. This Includes both public and staff only areas of the Museum such as lobbies, exhibits, offices, bathrooms, break rooms, lunch rooms and other areas on the Museum premises. This position requires one (1) or more years of custodial work experience and the ability to meet physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation. Hourly rate: $10/hour, starting. Temporary to Hire through temporary staffing agency.

Custodial Supervisor: This full-time position will function as a first-line supervisor for the museum's custodial department. This employee will work under the general supervision of the Facilities Director and use independent judgment to apply department guidelines to specific situations as well as coordinate custodial activities and staff. This position requires knowledge of the practices and materials used in the duties of the custodial staff, as well as custodial policies and procedures, and will ensure all staff members are following all safety guidelines. This position requires three (3) years of experience as supervisor or lead worker of custodial team and one (1) year of custodial work experience. The hours for this position may vary. This position is eligible for the museum’s generous benefits, leave, and retirement package.

PART-TIME AND SEASONAL POSITIONS

Planetarium Educator: This is a part-time position that may have the potential to transition to a full-time position. Weekday and/or weekend shifts as well as holiday availability may be required. The planetarium educator is responsible for the live presentation of all types of programs in SMO's Kirkpatrick Planetarium. The educator is expected to maintain and develop further knowledge in the areas of astronomy and space exploration past, present, and future in order to skillfully engage visitors. This position must also be capable of general monitoring and troubleshooting of planetarium equipment. Additional responsibilities can include special events, curriculum development, teaching, workshop presentation, offsite programming, volunteer management and other duties that support the museum in providing the highest quality discovery experiences to children, families, and teachers.
